How marking works

Every paper is marked automatically against the answer key the moment it is handed in, using each question’s marks, negative marks and partial-credit rule. Nothing is left to mark by hand.

The exam’s Result tab shows Candidates, Attended, Absent, Submitted, the Average, the highest and lowest, the Pass rate and the spread of scores. The table lists each student’s Marks, %, Grade, Rank, Result, time taken and whether they were Flagged. Did not attend lists who never started.

Checking a paper and changing a mark

Open a student’s attempt from the result list. The Answer sheet shows each question with the answer given, the correct answer, the time spent and the marks.

  1. To change a mark, type the new one into that question’s marks box and leave the field. It saves on its own and the question is labelled Moderated.
  2. To undo it, press the restore mark beside it (Moderated — restore the machine’s mark).
  3. Write why in Remarks and press Save remarks. Remarks are not shown to the student.

The exam’s owner and administrators can change marks. If an answer key was wrong, an administrator can fix the question and use Re-grade every attempt on the Result tab: every attempt is marked again against the current keys, so scores students have already seen may change.

Grade bands

Administrators set the school’s scale once under Settings → Grades. Each Grade has a From %: a student gets the highest grade they reach, and anyone below every band gets F. Add a grade, then Save the scale; Reset to the default goes back to A+ 90, A 80, B 70, C 60, D 50 and E 40.

Releasing results

What happens is set by the exam’s When students get their results. With Immediately upon submission, each student sees their result as soon as they hand in. Otherwise, open the Result tab and press Release to students when you are ready. Check the flagged attempts first. Hide from students takes the results back.

Administrators can release results, and so can teachers with the Publish results permission. Export CSV downloads every student’s score, percentage, grade, rank, result and integrity flag.

What students see

Under What students see in their report, four things are decided separately: Pass / Fail status & grade, Total score and class rank, Question breakdown and correct answers, and Teacher comments and topic performance. Untick everything and students see only that their answers were received. You can change this at any time, even after results are out.

The student’s result and report card

A student opens a finished exam from Your exams to see Your result: their score, how many were Correct, Wrong and Not answered, their rank, the result By topic, and Question by question, as far as the exam allows. Print or save as PDF makes a report card.

When topic performance is shown, the page can also include Your feedback: Doing well, To work on and Next steps. It is written by the school’s AI assistant from the marks on that paper. The marks themselves are always arithmetic; the assistant only puts them into words.

How long results are kept

Results are protected for three years after an exam ends. Until then nobody can delete them, administrators included. After that an administrator can use Delete results on the Result tab. To keep the app quick without deleting anything, archive finished exams instead.
