Finding your exam
Sign in with the email address your school added. Your Dashboard shows Exams to sit, with Open now on the ones you can start. Exams shows Your exams with what is To sit, In progress, Awaiting result, Completed and Missed.
If you are told to use the Examline desktop app, open it, sign in and choose Your exams.
Before you start
- Open the exam. Read The rules for this exam: how long you have, the marks, whether wrong answers lose marks, and whether you can go back.
- If your teacher reads out an access code, type it into Access code.
- Fill in Your details if the exam asks for any.
- Tick I have read the rules and I am ready to start. and press Start the exam. The clock starts the moment you press it and cannot be paused.
Arrived early? Fill everything in and press the button anyway. You will see a countdown, and you are taken in the moment the exam opens, as long as you keep the page open.
During the exam
- The timer runs on the school’s server clock, not your device’s. It turns amber with five minutes left and red with one.
- Answering: tap an option. Tap it again to clear it. For several answers, tick every correct one.
- Previous, Mark for review and Next move you around. On the last question, Next becomes Finish. Some papers move one way only: then you cannot go back, so answer before pressing Next.
- The answer sheet shows every question as Answered, Not answered, Marked or Not seen. Tap a number to jump to it.
- Messages from your invigilator appear at the top of the paper. Press Got it once you have read one.
Fullscreen and leaving the page
A timed paper opens in fullscreen. If you leave fullscreen, the paper is hidden until you press Back to exam, and your time keeps running. Leaving the exam window, copying, pasting and printing are blocked or recorded for your teacher. If you leave several times you may see a warning, and some exams are submitted automatically after a set number.
An exam can be open in one tab at a time. If you open it in another, the first one says This exam is open in another tab and offers Continue in this tab.
If your connection drops
Keep going. Every answer is saved on your device first and sent when the connection comes back. The top of the paper says Offline — answers saved on this device, then Saving… and Saved again.
If you close the tab or your device runs out of battery, open the exam again: on the same device or another one, your answers come with you. Your clock does not stop while you are away.
Submitting
- Press Submit exam under the answer sheet. On some exams it only opens near the end; it then says Submit opens in and how long.
- Submit your exam? shows how many you have Answered, Not answered and Marked, and lists the ones Still unanswered. Tap a number to go back to it.
- Press Submit. You cannot change your answers after this.
When the time runs out, everything you answered is handed in for you; nothing is lost. The receipt shows a Reference, when it was submitted and how many questions you answered. Your result appears on the result page once your teacher releases it.
